Confronting the Tattler

How To Deal With Gossips

There are gossips everywhere. The media talks about the lives of actors and famous people. The worst part about it is that they dwell on the negative. People, however, seem to appreciate it. This is how gossiping is promoted.

Thus, you can’t stop others from talking about you as well. It seems as if some people misinterpret what you do or say, and then like to talk about it. They don’t let you know what they’re thinking, but the moment you leave the room, that’s when the rumors start.

If You Can’t Beat Them, Don’t Join Them

Just because you can’t stop others from gossiping about you doesn’t mean that you allow them to. As much as you avoid these individuals, they bask on the misery of others. If there’s one thing you need to realize, it’s the fact that those who lead miserable lives like to pull others down.

If you’re perfectly happy where you are, then you shouldn’t dabble in the same kind of activity. It might be tempting to give them a dose of their own medicine, but then again, you need to be the better and bigger person.

If you need to confront the tattler, go ahead because you also have the right to protect your reputation.

State Your Stand and Be Firm

If you must confront the source, then make sure you do it strategically. If you are sure with your sources, then state the facts to them.

They may deny it and don’t be shocked if they do because a thief will never admit to his guilt. The same rules apply to the gossip. So, don’t be too confrontational and start hurling accusations. Be diplomatic about it by asking them what they think and how all the facts seem to point straight to them.

This somewhat tells them that you won’t allow for such attitude without being too offensive. Some will stick to their story no matter what and others will give in and tell you the truth. The point is that you let them know that you won’t allow this kind of dirt to infiltrate your life. The next time they see you, they’ll be walking on eggshells.

Handle It With A Sense of Humor

If the others ask you about the rumors about you, approach the whole situation with a sense of humor. You can let the person know that you see their opinions as one big joke. This is actually a good way to insult them while maintaining your dignity and letting others know that you’re the better educated one. Plus, it will make you look unaffected, thus, dispelling some doubts about the rumor.

Forgive, Forget and Move On

Then, move on and forget all that useless gossip because you have better things to do on your spare time. Lies actually have a short life span and if you don’t let these things get to you, then it’s going to die a quicker death.

If some people try to bring it up, just shrug your shoulders and let them know that you won’t use your time for such ridiculous and useless talk. They’ll soon catch on and talk about other things.
